I do  need more ways to procrastinate :D

1. Tell us about your favorite writing project/universe that you've worked with and why.
My favorite would have to be between The Not So Dearly Departed, just because I love the way it's going so far. I have to do a complete re-write, though XD I fu-cocked a bunch of things up with it, so I have to fix that.

2. How many characters do you have? Do you prefer males or females?
I have quite a few characters, more than I'd like to count. And I prefer writing females, just because that's the gender I'm most comfortable with. But I have been thinking about writing more guys, just because I know the ratio is so skewed.

3. How do you come up with names, for characters (and for places if you're writing about fictional places)?
It depends on what I'm writing for. In The Not So Dearly Departed, I used a baby book for some names, and others just popped into my head. But those are "normal" names. For one of the WIPS I have going, I just combine sounds I like and write down the phonetic version. It all depends :D

4. Tell us about one of your first stories/characters!
No. That story will never again be mentioned. There is only one blasted copy of it, and I plan to keep it that way.

5. By age, who is your youngest character? Oldest? How about "youngest"?
My youngest character? At one point, I had a pair of newborn twins I wrote with, but that story kind of faded. As it is, I think it's Fred. She's 16. Maturity wise? Probably my Phoenix character. She never really gets a chance to mature because she keeps getting killed XD That will change soon, but I haven't gotten too far past her rebirth scene.

6. Where are you most comfortable writing? At what time of day? Computer or good ol' pen and paper?
I love writing anywhere with a booky/academic feeling. Barnes and Noble (I know, cliche, leave me alone--I love the white mochas) and also at school. Though anywhere at school, it's pretty much limited to the library and the TSU because that's where the outlets are. Oh! Best place, though: fourth or fifth floor of the library. That's where all the books are, and despite how creepy it is, that's where I feel comfortable? (That doesn't even make sense to me, but I'm not about the question it.)

7. Do you listen to music while you write? What kind? Are there any songs you like to relate/apply to your characters?
I do, but mostly to drown everything else out. I like the music, and sometime, depending on the song, the story will change a little. I love when that happens (especially if I'm listening to Pandora because it's not always songs I know) because then it gives the story more spontaneity. And life isn't a playlist, it's flipping through the radio, never knowing what mood's about to hit you ;D

8. What's your favorite genre to write? To read?
Urban fantasy, but that's mainly because it's also my favorite genre to read. I've been getting into fantasy more, though. Mostly because these ideas in my head require a blank slate, and New York, LA, and suburbia are not blank slates.

9. How do you get ideas for your characters? Describe the process of creating them.
They just kind of pop into my head. I'll see something happen, think about how I would react, then how someone else would react, and it just develops from there. It's like meeting someone in an awkward situation and then getting to know them from there.

10. What are some really weird situations your characters have been in? Everything from serious canon scenes to meme questions counts!
It would probably have to be Alice, just because that's her life. She was driving home from getting dinner with her mom, and her ghost friend/guide/father figure was chatting up a ghost from the seventies who died in a towel. So Reb (the first ghost) is trying to get laid, and the poor other ghost with the towel is just confused and a little turned on, and Alice's mom has no idea what's going on, and Alice is trying to keep a straight face despite Towel-ghost's inability to sit with his legs together.

11. Who is your favorite character to write? Least favorite?
My favorite character to write is Gregory Thomas. He's just so evil and wonderful and sadistic and....
Well, that's that. My least favorite? Probably Fred's parents. She's adopted and her parents are Asian, based on a friend of mine's parents, and I hate writing them because I know how racist it seems, but that's just how her parent's act. I'm just crazy.

12. In what story did you feel you did the best job of world building?
My post apocalyptic one. The geography gave me some issues, but I figured it out ;D

13. What's your favorite culture to write, fictional or not?
I like my Phoenix culture. It's so bubbly and fun, and then you get out of the town's parameters and BAM! You're attacked. I love how that thin line of safety mimics so much of real life.

14. How do you map out locations, if needed? Do you have any to show us?
I draw maps. Or explain them in relation to things I know. I don't have any to show, but trust me, it wouldn't make sense. Having one place labeled "Foresty, lives in Cassie's house circa. 5th grade" will make sense to very, very few people.

15. Mid way question! Tell us about a writer you admire, whether professional or not!
Richelle Meade :D
I'm a little in love with her. She's crazy-smart, funny, and knows how to blend the fun, the serious, and the ridiculous in her stories to make them perfect.

16. Do you write romantic relationships? How do you do with those, and how "far" are you willing to go in your writing?
It depends. I have yet to have a serious romantic relationship develop in anything, and if they did, I don't know if I would go into detail about their... "Encounters" :) . Sometimes characters need their privacy. However, the darker side of love, like what Gregory has for Alice? I love writing stuff like that. I love the dark side of the human psyche.

17. Favorite protagonist and why!
Fred. She's technically not the protagonist, but she's still my favorite.

18. Favorite antagonist and why!
Gregory Thomas. No question. Also, if I go into why, I might get put on some kind of list.

19. Favorite minor that decided to shove himself into the spotlight and why!
One of the characters in Phoenix, but I haven't settled on his name. He's just so fun, and he thinks that he's the hero, but he isn't. Kind of. Yet. -ish.

20. What are your favorite character interactions to write?
Fred and Alice. I love the way they play off each other. It reminds me of a friend and mine's interactions :D

21. Do any of your characters have children? How well do you write them?
Not yet. I might get someone pregnant eventually, but not yet.

22. How long does it usually take you to complete an entire story—from planning to writing to posting (if you post your work)?
Finish a story? What's that?
>.>'

23. How willing are you to kill your characters if the plot so demands it? What's the most interesting way you've killed someone?
One of my stories ends with the death of one of the main characters (I haven't written it yet, but it'll happen). The more I write, though, the less I want to kill him. I know I have to, though, so I will. But it'll be pretty depressing. The most interesting death? Probably death by tripping. My poor little Phoenix. I kill her too much.

24. Do any of your characters have pets? Tell us about them.
One of the versions of Alice had a ferret. I think I might bring him back in the rewrite.

25. Let's talk art! Do you draw your characters? Do others draw them? Pick one of your OCs and post -your favorite picture of him!
I do draw them a lot, but posting pictures would take up a long time, so no.

26. Along similar lines, do appearances play a big role in your stories? Tell us about them, or if not, how you go about designing your characters.
Honestly, I just pick random people out of the crowd and assign them a character. If I need to, I'll change eye color, but that's about it. Except Fred. I wanted a red-head with freckles, so I designed Fred based on that. I love her :D

27. Have you ever written a character with physical or mental disabilities? Describe them, and if there's nothing major to speak of, tell us a few smaller ones.
Yes. One of my characters in the post-apocalyptic story is a paranoid schizophrenic, made worse by telepathy. But other than that, there aren't any major issues. I might  change that though, in a rewrite, though. Mental illness are so often forgotten, spotlighting them is important. Awareness is crucial.

28. Final question! Tag someone! And tell us what you like about that person as a writer and/or about one of his/her characters!
:iconvincerus: ! I don't know if he uses deviantArt anymore, but if you do! TAG!

(Stolen shamelessly from :iconcullenwaylandblack: )

As I write this, the Red Cross estimates that Pakistan’s flood victims (over 20 million people affected) could be displaced from their homes for as long as 6 months. The United Nations says that this is the most complex disaster they have ever faced; the casualties, damages to the infrastructure, and risk of child death from waterborne illness are enormous. Through all of this, Pakistan is getting relatively little attention compared to other natural disasters, which makes me really sad. I want to help, if only a little bit, and I don’t know if this will work but here goes.
If you donate at least $5 to the Pakistan Relief Effort through Red Cross / UNICEF / Oxfam / other trustworthy NGOs, you receive a free sketch from me. Here's how it works:
- you donate on an aid organization's website (links to NGOs are at the bottom)
- email the receipt to me (cullenwaylandblack@gmail.com; please include your DA username) as a screen cap with the subject "PAKISTAN",
- I will draw you a free sketch/piece of art of your choosing (OC/fanart/dolphins/whatever) depending on the amount you gave. this can be from any fandom you want.
AID ORGANIZATIONS: UNICEF | Red Cross | Oxfam
It's not much, but it's what I can do. So if you can afford it, please give.
I know money is tight for a lot of people, but if you're an artist who can and would be willing to participate, drop :iconaurumestpotestas: a line to get involved in this effort. If you don't want to draw/donate, please spread the word in your journal--every bit helps.
Thanks for reading <3
--
i will do as many drawings as i am asked to do...not putting a limit on this; because THIS images.theage.com.au/2010/09/0… is what we're dealing with. there are children and people who need help. i know money is tight. but please, please do this.
remember, email the receipt to me (sierratavasolian@csu.fullerton.edu; please include your DA username) as a screen cap with the subject "PAKISTAN".
i will do a plain black and white sketch for $5.
i will do a colored sketch for $6-9.
if you do $10 or more i will draw you 2 sketches COLORED. for every five dollars more, you will get another drawing. ($5=1. $10=2)
please note me if you have any questions!
also here are (some) of the artists who are donating!
:iconirrel: :iconavatarded99: :iconarch-nsha: :iconjessiphia: :iconskyportcafe: :iconphinnimonster: :icongreenifyme:
if you don't want art from me, see if you want some art from them! the full lists of artists will be at :iconaurumestpotestas: go take a look!
so go for it guys!

EDIT!!!!!! Please comment on this journal to let me know if you are e-mailing me. Just so I can keep track, and check my spam mail, just in case!
